Moon Reece

Moon Reece creates distinctive abstract interpretations of seasons and landscapes.  She uses Sgraffito marks and Asemic writing while the paint is still malleable to express thoughts and contrasting tones to enhance the composition.

Moon depicts how the seasons transform our Hill Country landscapes by expressing her interpretation as cubist abstract impressionism.

River Bank  $3,000

Abstract Modern Art on Gallery Wrapped Canvas, rendered in acrylics and oil paints

Spring had given way to the baking rays of the sun, the relentless whine of the cicadas almost obscuring the gentle sound of water rushing over the damn, smoothed stones and maidenhair fern. The deep shadowy greens of juniper trees, crystal clear water teaming with bass and perch, and the towering oak trees draping long shadows on dry grass lingered on my mind.

I returned to the studio and painted River Bank. Simple optimism in the future and the natural beauty of the hill country emerged as an abstract landscape with sgraffito marks and asemic or quasi-writing scraped into contrasting colors.

I returned to the studio and painted Aurora. A celebration of my brother rendered in an abstract with sgraffito marks and asemic or quasi-writing scraped into contrasting vibrant colors.  As with all my abstracts, Aurora may be hung with a different orientation.

Recycled Frame 24 $925 (SOLD without frame)

“I hunt for frames at thrift shops and use the size as a guide. I let the paint flow into small shapes. Like writing a love letter, I start in a corner and choose colors intuitively. The colors wash into one another and allow the watercolor to emerge organically.

I don’t start with an idea; I paint as I feel.

Perfection is unnecessary. The result is a painting with shapes appearing organized to fit. The illusion of a controlled pattern comforts the brain’s self-organizing tendencies. The process quiets me, and viewers are fascinated and calmed.”     Moon

Asemic Writing

Asemic writing is a wordless form of writing. Using strokes that resemble an alphabetic language but are more image than text, viewers may attribute intent or their value to the figures. This art form is open to interpretation.

Moon has dyslexia and early on developed illegible handwriting to scratch her spontaneous pros into the wet paint of her art without being judged for her spelling mistakes. Over the years, writing became less a language and more an artistic expression unbound by the semantics of words.
